We stumbled on a garage sale this weekend while home for Mother’s Day. There were some great finds in our small Texas hometown. The homeowner had great style and there were several things that piqued our interest! Above is an old Samsonite suitcase with its Braniff tag still attached! Check out the full post after the jump to see what else we found and what we ended up buying!

We ended up buying this great silver bamboo-inspired table with a glass top. It’s in great condition…jus a few little rust spots and some cleanup on the glass. We waited until the end of the day and got the seller to throw in these old bottles. They’ll be great to add a little bit of vintage atmosphere in a shoot.

Below are some more fascinating objects we found…A couple of old army equipment chests with great colors and lettering (they’d work well as side tables or even a coffee table), a vintage Fish Lo-K-tor and an old Exxon gear oil barrel in a great blue! It would make a neat industrial umbrella stand or planter if you didn’t mind the rust.

We ran across these adorable espresso cups today while searching for something else entirely. The cups in this set of six from Yedi Houseware are teeny-tiny and although we aren’t fancy enough to drink espresso around here, Mrs. Creative (our mother, not our wife!) makes a decadent chocolate mousse that would just look perfect in these. She already serves it in mini classic white ceramic mugs, but this might just add a touch of elegance and fun to a dinner party dessert. And there’s nothing we like more here at Creative & Sons than elegance, fun…and chocolate! Unfortunately this style seems to be discontinued, but you can still find it on Amazon, along with some other great styles.

The pieces we found that most stood out was this pair of chairs (only one pictured, sorry!) from AREA in the Second Street district here in Austin. When we first set eyes on them, we just loved them. And we knew they would work perfectly for the story. We were going for a warmer look in the home, and while these were still gray, the traditional feel, antique finish and rich darker gray upholstery really made them perfect. We shot a few options without them, but in the end they ended up making it into the story. We were just in AREA a day or two ago and much to our surprise, they’re still there! Go and check them out and see some of the other great stuff AREA has to offer.

Back in October we did a shoot for a weddings magazine with a bird theme. We found this great birdcage at a shop called Debris in Dallas but we didn’t end up using it. It’s hard to tell in this photo, but it’s HUGE! An average-height person could probably stand up inside it. The paint is in nice antiquey condition and so is the metal roof. It even fit in our color scheme! It would have made a great set piece, but the photographer and art director were afraid it might overwhelm the models. We’re not sure if it’s still there, but they have other great pieces as well.
